Fleurs d’Antoinette

Another 18th c inspired gown.

Fleurs d'Antoinette BJD

I love everything french, Marie Antoinette, 18th c inspired and historical fashion. Such a period of extravagance. The details that the gowns had, and to think that they were all made by hand! I have many books on the details of the fashion of the 1700’s, and it is truly breathtaking. One thing I do plan on doing this summer is to visit LACMA for the textile and fashion and FIDM’s fashion museum.
I think this is why my favorite designers are Christian LaCroix and John Galliano. Both of these talented designers use the 18th c as inspiration in many of their designs. Especially LaCroix. He is just pure genius.

Love it!

Love it!

I have been having such fun doing these historical gowns for the Asian Ball Jointed dolls. I think they wear the fashions well and add a touch of whimsy to the style. I still have several fabric prints I plan on doing. Guess I better get a move on!

Vanilla Rose

I got some pictures taken this morning of Katara modeling one of my projects using silk ribbon embroidery. I really like how it turned out and now can’t wait to do another.

The book I got at the library said that this gets addictive and she was right. To take simple ribbon and fabric and watch it come to life with each stitch and each rose you add, it is so fulfilling. I think that is why I enjoy designing and sewing so much also. Here you have fabric, and the process of creating something beautiful out of it, to see it start to take form… It’s the process I love- well, I love the end product also.
I’ll be listing this on eBay later.

A New Media……

I recently saw something that inspired me to try my hand at silk ribbon embroidery. I’ve always been interested to try this form of embroidery. I love how delicate and beautiful the roses look in the silk ribbon.
After some research on the internet, a book borrowed from the library and a small kit that I had purchased long ago just for the ribbon, I was set to try this old art form.

I found it pretty easy to do since I used to do embroidery when I was younger. Wonder what ever happened to those pieces I did back then. I remember a cute Holly Hobbie pattern I had done that never got mounted or framed. Left it at my mom’s when I moved out-probably long gone now.

I guess I could always do it again

This is a second embroidery I did, to make into a needle book since I don’t have anything to keep all these embroidery needle in now. When you start a new art form, it’s a lot of time and money into the supplies to begin it. Still working on finding ribbon- eBay has a good selection, but I’m not sure on quality. I have found between the ribbon I purchased for this project and another, compared to the ribbon that came with the kit that there is a difference in quality.

The real project that I finally finished will be posted later as I still need to take pics of it. I’m really happy with how it turned out.

Are there really enough hours in a day?

Do we ever really get everything done in a day that we set out to get done? I find myself more busy now that I have been a stay at home mom than when I worked outside the home. Between taking my daughter to school and picking her up, homework, home improvement projects, just keeping the house clean and keeping up with those chores, and then-doing my website and designing for the dolls so I can make a little of my own pocket money. Whew! I find I always have to have lists- otherwise I become the SHE(sidetracked home executive)
When I say about the hours in a day-it’s because I wish I had unlimited hours to do what I want to do and not have to take care of everyone else. But then with marriage an kids comes responsibility. Right now my husband is on a surfing trip in Costa Rica on a 60ft Catamaran. At least I don’t have to worry about him this week. Soooo I’ve been doing some painting around the house-mainly repainting my bathroom since he is not around- and trying to sew my little heart out since he is not around to bother me. Only one I have to worry about is the DD.

Anyway, here is a little something I have been working on.work in progresswork in progress full view

Please don’t mind my area, the pins in the bodice or the wrinkles. These were very quick pics. I still need to add ruffle trim to the skirt and add the corsage to the bodice. I wasn’t sure about this one when I first started it but it’s coming out rather nicely. The ruffles on the skirt will add a lot and I think I might do some ties inside the skirt so it can become a polonaise.

Well I better get back to work……..

I really need to write in this more….

I’m again working on the website. And I’ve been sewing some beautiful 18th c gowns for the girls.

I’m working an a few more. It will be a collection of garden gowns, Le Jardin des Fleurs, hopefully some of them will be available for sale in the boutique by this weekend.

I’m also probably changing my blog hosting-in the process right now- hopefully I’ll use it a little more?
